Drawing The Head and Neck
Drawing anime faces can be a difficult task for beginners. But with practice and guidance, it can become an easy and enjoyable activity. From the basics of drawing anime faces to the details that make them look realistic, we’ll provide you with all the information you need.
First, draw a large circle in the middle of your paper. Make sure to leave space for sketch lines to run past the circle. Next, draw a vertical line through the middle of the circle.

Next, sketch the placement for the eyes. Do this by drawing a horizontal line measuring at about one third up from the bottom of the circle. Make sure that you are drawing lightly so the lines are easy to erase when you are done.
Now, place a horizontal line across the lowest point on the circle. This will create the placement for the tip of the nose.
Next, place a mark for the chin about ½ inches below the circle. Then, outline the jaw by drawing a line from the side of the circle (start a little over the horizontal line you made for the nose) all the way until you reach the chin mark. Customize the jawline to how you want it-female characters have more round faces and pointier chins than males, so use curvier lines for them. Male characters have more angled faces.
Now it’s time to sketch the neck. The width will depend on whether you are drawing a male or female. For females, place the neck lines so that they are narrower. For males, make it a little wider to show a muscular build.
How To Draw An Anime Face – Special Features
Now it’s time to add facial features to the head you just created! Create ears by drawing “C” shapes that line up with the eyes and nose lines. Draw whatever style ears you want for your character since they can be various shapes and sizes.
Now, place a dot where you want the nose to be using the nose line you created earlier. For something a little more complex, draw two slightly curvy lines.
Now you can draw the eyes! Make sure the eyes are placed below the eye guideline you drew. The eyes will largely depend on whether your character is male or female. If you are drawing a male, draw a horizontal line under the guideline. If you are drawing a female, create an arched line under the guideline. Make sure that the arch is going toward the side of the head. Draw the bottom part of the eye anywhere above the nose.
You can’t have eyes with no eyebrows! Create eyebrows by drawing slightly curved or straight (depends on your preference) above the corner of the eye. Eyes and eyebrows come in different shapes and sizes, so get some inspiration from your favorite characters!
Now it’s time to draw the mouth. Find the halfway point between the nose and chin and draw the mouth. Mouths vary in shapes and sizes. If you want a simple one, simply draw a curved horizontal line.
All done! Now, it’s time to erase all your guidelines and clean up your drawing. Good luck!
